This guide walks you step-by-step through unboxing, initializing, securing, and using your Trezor hardware wallet via the official Trezor start portal and Trezor Suite. Follow these instructions carefully to keep your private keys offline and your crypto safe.
Only buy directly from the official Trezor store or an authorized reseller. Inspect tamper-evident seals, holographic stickers, and packaging for signs of tampering. If anything looks suspicious, stop and contact official support immediately.
Have a secure, private surface to write on (not a phone or computer). Prepare a pen, backup paper or metal backup plate, and a desktop or laptop with a supported browser. Avoid public Wi-Fi when setting up your wallet.
Open your browser and go to the official start portal to download Trezor Suite. The start page will guide you to the correct Suite (desktop or web) and provide model-specific instructions for Model One and Model T.
Connect your Trezor device to your computer using the supplied cable. Trezor Suite should detect the device and prompt you to install official firmware. Accept and allow the Suite to complete the firmware installation — this is required for secure use.
Firmware is the device’s trusted software. Installing official firmware ensures your device runs verified code and mitigates supply-chain attacks. Never install firmware from untrusted sources.
Choose “Create new wallet” to generate a new recovery seed. The device will display your recovery words. Write them down exactly as shown, in correct order, on the provided recovery card or a dedicated backup solution.
If you already have a recovery phrase (12/18/24 words), choose “Recover wallet” and enter the words when prompted. Only enter your seed on the device itself — never type it into a computer or phone.
Set a PIN when prompted to prevent unauthorized physical use. Memorize it or store it in a secure, separate location. Optionally enable a passphrase for an additional hidden wallet layer — only use this if you fully understand how passphrases work.
When receiving funds, check the receiving address on the Trezor device screen and confirm it matches the address in Trezor Suite. This prevents malware from substituting a malicious address in the app interface.
